Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Dr. Iskander uses the FDA-approved SkinPen for microneedling and skin rejuvenation. SkinPen is the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA, clinically proven to safely treat acne scars and stimulate collagen and elastin formation.

The SkinPen is a pen-shaped device that activates your skin’s innate healing abilities by making tiny micro punctures that cause new collagen, elastin, and blood vessels to form.

Who can benefit from microneedling?

Men and women who want younger, smoother skin can benefit from microneedling treatments. This comprehensive technique has a significant anti-aging benefit, and it also reduces the appearance of:

  • Enlarged pores
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Scars from acne or surgery
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun spots and areas of darker pigmentation

Microneedling is safe for adults with all skin tones and colors, as there’s no risk of discoloration.

What happens during a microneedling procedure?

When you come to Jonaleé Pain and Aesthetics for a microneedling procedure, Dr. Iskander first applies a topical numbing cream to minimize or eliminate any discomfort. She uses the SkinPen device to safely create tiny pinpricks in your skin.

Most men and women don’t experience pain during the treatment, and it begins to rejuvenate your complexion almost immediately.

What can I expect after a microneedling treatment?

After your microneedling treatment, your skin may appear red for a few days as if you have had a mild sunburn. To keep your skin as healthy as possible, protect it from the sun by wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more and avoiding midday sun exposure. Within about 48 hours, your skin heals, and you can begin to notice the initial effects of your microneedling treatment.

Beyond the initial improvement you see in the first couple of days, your skin continues to repair itself from the inside out, generating new collagen and elastin, so you’ll have improved skin tone, texture, firmness, and diminished wrinkles for several weeks to come as you continue to notice the anti-aging benefits of the microneedling procedure.

Depending on your needs, Dr. Iskander may recommend multiple sessions, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart to deliver optimal results. Call Jonaleé Pain and Aesthetics or schedule a skin care consultation online to learn if microneedling is a good option for you.
