Injectables Q & A

What are cosmetic injectables?

Jonaleé Pain and Aesthetics offers injectables as a way to address some of the ways your appearance, specifically your face, changes with age. Because your skin loses structural fibers like collagen and elastin, your skin tends to sag and lose some of the subdermal fat that gives it volume over the years. Sun exposure can speed up some of the changes too.

Dr. Iskander can tell you about available injectables and whether or not they can address your specific issues. Before treatment, she carefully marks spots on your face to map out where to place the injections. Then, she may offer you a numbing product so you can’t feel more than a bit of pressure when the needle enters your skin.

What are my injectables options?

Modern cosmetic injectables can make lots of changes, depending on the type of injectable you use. Dr. Iskander helps you review each option so you know what they do and how you’ll react to them. The following options offer temporary changes to your appearance that reduce some of the effects of aging:

Botox

Botox is a name-brand neuromodulator that interacts with your nerves. It causes targeted motor nerves to stop certain muscle contractions, which ultimately leaves you with fewer fine lines. You can get Botox to smooth dynamic wrinkles like crow’s feet or frown lines. Results last around 4-6 months for most individuals.

Fillers

Fillers work by adding volume beneath your skin where there is little to none. The gel-like substances hold volume in place until your tissues absorb the product, usually within six months to two years, depending on the product.

With fillers, you can enjoy plumper lips or cheeks or reduce deep wrinkles like smokers’ lines. You can also improve facial symmetry by optimizing some of the contours of your face.

How should I prepare for injectables?

Preparing for any type of cosmetic injectable involves the same basic steps. Dr. Iskander wants to make sure you won’t experience any unwanted complications like bleeding or bruising, so she gives you a clear set of instructions well in advance of your appointment.

To prepare for a successful injectable treatment at Jonaleé Pain and Aesthetics, you should:

  • Disclose your medical history, like allergies you have and medications you take
  • Stop taking blood-thinning medications and supplements (e.g., ibuprofen, aspirin)
  • Avoid alcohol for about 24 hours
  • Take off makeup before receiving injectables

Dr. Iskander makes sure you have clear and accurate expectations for your procedure and your results. You can safely go home soon after your injections take place.
